Tedeschi Amarone Della Valpolicella 2004



Tedeschi is considered one of the top producers of Amarone and Recioto wines. Still, the family has never rested on its laurels, continually striving to improve the structure of the wine by keeping the vines’ yields low. The grapes are harvested from the end of September, to the beginning of October and then are dried on racks in controlled humidity conditions for 4 months. The resulting wine has a deep red color. Tedeschi Amarone Della Valpolicella 2004 has a full bouquet showing vanilla and sweet fruits with a velvety mouthfeel and rich, raisiny flavors.

The color of Leeuwin Prelude Vineyard Chardonnay 2006 is straw green, bright and almost luminous. This wine displays lifted pristine Margaret River Chardonnay fruit typical of the Leeuwin vineyard. The well integrated bouquet has ripe pear skin, figs, and nutty cashews. The subtle integration of French oak provides vanilla notes to this perfumed Chardonnay. Medium in weight, due to the cool ripening period the wine displays deceptive length and mouth filling structure. The palate shows fresh and vibrant pears, tangy grapefruit and peaches, with the balanced citrus acid giving the wine a delicious elegance and youthfulness. An excellent vintage for Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay, this wine will lend itself to cellaring for a number of years.

Enzo Boglietti Barolo Arione 2004 stands apart. A powerful, sinewy wine, it captures the essence of this Serralunga vineyard in its autumn leaves, iron, licorice, tar and dark fruit. There is plenty of richness and depth as well, but the wine possesses an additional level of brute force and thrust. This Barolo is a beautifully expressive wine loaded with personality. As is the case with Boglietti’s other Barolos in this vintage, the Arione develops nicely in the glass. Ideally this Italian red can use a few years of cellaring.
